Scrap Wood Tool Cart

I’ve been spending some time cleaning and re-arranging the garage and basement workshop. The lathe and jointer have both been needing a home so I built a DIY scrap wood tool cart. They generally get moved around and always seem to be in the way. I had some casters taking up space in a drawer and plenty of scrap 2×4 so I took a few measurements and built a mobile cart for them.

The completed cart

The slats underneath are set up to support either the smaller base of the jointer or the wider base of the lathe.

Loaded up tool cart

Initially I’d used some wonky 2x4s for the upright pieces. This caused the cart to only have 3 wheels on the ground. I partially disassembled and rebuilt it with some straighter pieces. I also took some extra care when I reassembled it to keep everything square.

The casters I used don’t lock, so I don’t expect I’ll use this as a work surface for either tool. I don’t think it’d be very safe.
